Local Leaders Deny Allegations of Fund Misuse in BARMM, Express Support for SAP Lagdameo

Manila, Philippines – Top officials from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and South Cotabato have come forward to categorically deny accusations of misappropriation of BARMM funds and coercion of local politicians to join the administration. In a joint statement, Special Assistant to the President Antonio Ernesto Lagdameo Jr. and South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. refuted the allegations, describing them as “false and malicious.”

Lagdameo and Tamayo emphasized that the recent gathering of BARMM mayors and key leaders in Davao City was peaceful and respectful, with no reports of undue pressure on any official. BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim, along with other Mindanao leaders, had also previously denied these claims.

“My role as the Special Assistant to the President is to uphold transparency, accountability, and integrity in all matters,” said Lagdameo. He further clarified that the allocation and utilization of funds for BARMM follow legal and transparent processes, ensuring that resources are used for the development of the region.

Governor Tamayo, who also serves as National President of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, added that his focus is on building partnerships for national development. He emphasized that their administration does not engage in any tactics that compromise democratic processes or the political freedom of local officials. “We invite those making these claims to present evidence rather than spread baseless accusations,” Tamayo said.
