Agusan del Sur – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga, through its Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), in collaboration with key officials from the Municipalities of Trento and San Luis, held a ceremonial turnover of projects and funds aimed at empowering local livelihood associations.
In the Municipality of Trento, SLP turned over two associations to the local government unit (LGU): Angat Manat SLP Association and Angat Kapatungan SLP Association. Angat Manat focuses on the buying and selling of agricultural farm products, while Angat Kapatungan invests in rice and agrivet supplies. Both associations aim to uplift the livelihoods of their members through sustainable business ventures.
Additionally, the Angat Buhay SLP Association, also from Trento, received ₱510,000 in seed capital to establish a commercial property business. Eden Ngoho, President of Angat Buhay, expressed the association’s commitment to making good use of the capital, saying, “We will thrive hard to set our association as the manifestation of all associations in Trento.”
In San Luis, two newly established associations, DPS Rentals SLP Association and Hugpong Doña Maxima SLP Association, were each awarded ₱345,000 in start-up capital, benefiting 46 members, including senior citizens and persons with disabilities. These funds will support their respective projects in the area.
Mary Jean Castro, President of DPS Rentals SLPA, thanked the DSWD, SLP, and LGU San Luis during her acceptance speech, stating, “With the help of our partners and our own diligence, we will grow and develop this project for the benefit of our community.”
This turnover signifies the collective efforts of the DSWD, SLP, and LGUs to promote sustainable livelihoods, particularly for those in vulnerable sectors. By providing these resources and support, the program aims to foster self-sufficiency and long-term development among its beneficiaries.
