In a significant boost to local agriculture, the Maribulan Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative (MARBECO) has been awarded P1.5 million worth of farm machinery, including a farm tractor and four shallow tube wells, by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR). This support aims to enhance banana production in the area, particularly through improved irrigation and climate resilience.
The donation, provided under the Climate Resilient Farm Productivity Support Project (CRFPSP), is designed to support climate-resilient banana farming by ensuring a steady water supply and improving both the quality of the produce and post-production handling.
Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer I, Ramonito Marciano, highlighted the importance of the shallow tube wells in sustaining irrigation for MARBECO’s 50-hectare banana plantation, especially during the dry season. “These shallow tube wells will be crucial in maintaining a steady water supply for the cooperative’s plantation, helping to mitigate the challenges posed by dry periods,” Marciano said.
He emphasized the importance of proper maintenance and adherence to business operations guidelines. “Take good care of these machineries and adhere to the guided business operations. Be assured that the DAR will always be there to assist you should you encounter any difficulties in implementing the project,” Marciano added.
MARBECO Chairman Julian Camia, Sr. expressed deep gratitude for DAR’s ongoing support, which has included both capacity-building efforts and the provision of essential equipment. “Thank you, on behalf of MARBECO members. Rest assured that we will use these resources as intended to further improve our agricultural production,” Camia said.
