Barobo, Surigao del Sur – In line with the ongoing campaign to maintain peace and order during the election period, the Philippine National Police (PNP) successfully apprehended a suspect in Barangay Poblacion, Barobo, on January 15, 2025. This action follows strict compliance with Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Resolution No. 10728, which emphasizes the importance of public safety.

Under the leadership of Provincial Director PCOL Harry B. Domingo of the Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office, the Barobo Municipal Police Station (MPS) arrested the suspect, identified as “Aga,” a 31-year-old married resident of Purok-6, Barangay Poblacion.

The operation was prompted by a call at 10:50 PM from a concerned citizen reporting an illegal firearm discharge in the area. Acting swiftly, the police responded and apprehended the suspect. Confiscated during the operation were:

  • A Colt MFG Co. caliber .45 pistol
  • Two magazines loaded with seven live rounds
  • A black pouch
  • A digital weighing scale
  • A heat-sealed sachet containing suspected shabu
  • Assorted paraphernalia, including IDs and a cellphone
  • PHP 1,500 cash

Additionally, police recovered three fired cartridge cases from the scene of the incident.

The suspect was informed of his rights under the Miranda Warning and the Anti-Torture Act. All seized evidence was properly inventoried and marked in the presence of witnesses, ensuring due process and transparency. The suspect and confiscated items are now in the custody of Barobo MPS for further investigation and legal proceedings.

PCOL Domingo commended the efforts of the Barobo police team and expressed gratitude to the public for their vigilance.

“This arrest is a testament to the dedication and vigilance of our police force in ensuring public safety and upholding the law. We remain committed to enforcing COMELEC regulations and combating illegal activities that threaten the well-being of our community. We encourage the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities,” Domingo stated.

The PNP reiterated its call for public cooperation to support the campaign against criminality, particularly during the critical election period.
