ZAMBOANGA CITY — In a move underscoring his unwavering commitment to public safety, Mayor John Dalipe handed over a P300,000 cash reward to the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) on Monday, January 13. The reward recognizes the successful arrest and neutralization of four individuals linked to recent shooting incidents in the city.

The handover ceremony took place in the conference room of the ZCPO, where Acting City Director Police Colonel Kimberly Molitas presented two suspected gunmen to the mayor and the media. The two other suspects were neutralized during a covert operation conducted by Police Senior Master Sergeant Ryan Mariano on New Year’s Eve in Ayala.

The cash reward was distributed equally among three police units, with each receiving P100,000. The recipients included the Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU) led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Hartzel Peter Billedo, Police Station 9 headed by Police Major Joemar Calud, and Police Station 6 under the command of Police Major Xyronne P. Caronan.

Identified Suspects and Cases

The suspects presented were identified as Fernan Tanji Alpha and Mubin Tupasan Kalbi. Alpha is allegedly linked to two shooting cases: one at a Phoenix Gas Station in San Jose Gusu and another at City Hardware along the MCLL Highway. Kalbi, on the other hand, is implicated in the December 21, 2024, shooting incident at Bato Bato Drive, Barangay Arena Blanco.

The two neutralized suspects were reportedly members of a gun-for-hire group that had been operating in the city.

Recognition for Police Efforts

Mayor Dalipe lauded the ZCPO under the leadership of Col. Molitas for their dedication and effectiveness in combating criminal activities. “Your tireless efforts have brought peace and security to our residents. The city government remains steadfast in supporting your endeavors,” he said during the ceremony.

Col. Molitas highlighted the significant progress achieved in the campaign against gun-related crimes, reporting that a total of 39 gunmen have been apprehended since she assumed office. She reiterated the police force’s commitment to maintaining peace and order in Zamboanga City.

Continued Commitment to Public Safety

The cash reward initiative serves as part of Mayor Dalipe’s broader strategy to enhance the security sector’s morale and effectiveness. By recognizing the achievements of law enforcement agencies, the city government aims to strengthen public trust and ensure the safety of all residents.

The successful operations against the suspects mark a significant step forward in curbing violence and fostering a safer environment in Zamboanga City.
