Zamboanga City has been crowned as the Zamboanga Peninsula’s top travel destination for both domestic and foreign tourists in 2024, cementing its reputation as a must-visit location in the region. Adding to this achievement, the city’s iconic Sta. Cruz Island has also been recognized as one of the top tourist attractions in the area for 2023.
In a ceremony held on Monday, January 13, representatives from the Department of Tourism Region 9 (DOT-9), on behalf of Regional Director Dara May Cañaluña, presented certificates of recognition to City Tourism Officer Sarita Sebastian. The certificates highlighted the city’s remarkable tourism milestones and extended warm congratulations to the city government under the leadership of Mayor John Dalipe.
According to the certificate signed by Director Cañaluña, Zamboanga City emerged as the “most visited city by domestic and foreign travelers” based on the highest tourist inflow data collected from January to December 2023. The accolade also acknowledged the city’s exemplary efforts in promoting tourism and delivering exceptional experiences to visitors.
Meanwhile, Sta. Cruz Island’s recognition as one of the top tourist attractions in the Zamboanga Peninsula underscored its significant contribution to tourism. Known for its stunning pink sand beaches, the island was celebrated for providing exceptional visitor experiences while showcasing the region’s unique culture, heritage, and natural beauty.
Mayor John Dalipe expressed immense pride in the city’s latest achievements. He commended the City Tourism Office, led by Sarita Sebastian, for their dedication and hard work, which played a vital role in earning these distinctions. “These recognitions are a testament to our collective efforts in promoting Zamboanga City as a premier destination for tourists. We will continue to strive for excellence in showcasing the beauty and culture of our beloved city,” the mayor stated.
