In a decisive operation under its intensified campaign against smuggled and counterfeit goods, the Police Regional Office 12 (PRO 12) confiscated Php4,242,300.00 worth of smuggled cigarettes in Barangay Cabayuran, Libungan, Cotabato Province, on January 5, 2025. One individual involved in the smuggling activities was apprehended during the operation.
The operation, led by PBGEN Arnold P. Ardiente, Officer-In-Charge of PRO 12, was a joint effort involving personnel from Libungan Municipal Police Station (MPS), 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU), Cotabato Provincial Police Office (CPPO), Regional Intelligence Division 12 (RID 12), Regional Intelligence Unit 12 (RIU 12), and the 1203rd Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 12 (RMFB 12).
Law enforcement officials intercepted the transport of illicit items, which included 39 boxes of Filter Kings Commando Cigarettes, 37 boxes of Fort Cigarettes, and 150 reams of Fort Cigarettes (White).
The arrested suspect, identified only by the alias “Tata,” is a 36-year-old businessman from Barangay Poblacion, Libungan, Cotabato Province. He failed to present the necessary documentation for the goods in his possession.
The confiscated items and the suspect were turned over to the Libungan MPS for proper documentation and legal proceedings. Charges under Republic Act 10643, also known as The Graphic Health Warnings Law, are being prepared against the individual.
PBGEN Ardiente emphasized the significance of the operation in addressing the proliferation of smuggled goods and its broader impact on the community.
“Let us contribute to the nation’s growth by supporting locally and legally produced goods. Engaging in the illicit cigarette trade not only undermines potential government revenue but also poses significant health risks to the public,” he stated.
This operation reflects the commitment of PRO 12 to curbing smuggling activities in the region and ensuring compliance with laws designed to protect public health and government interests.
