Davao City—Authorities intercepted P3,229,864 worth of suspected shabu during a routine inspection at the AFP-PNP Border Control Point in Barangay Lacson, Calinan District, on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at around 12:20 p.m.

Personnel from Task Force Davao (TFD) discovered 474.98 grams of the illegal substance concealed inside a Nissan Navarra bearing the plate number JAS 8041. The vehicle’s occupants, identified as Ronnie Rey Sumo Domingo, 38, from Maramag, Bukidnon, and Jeam Gulapo Cagalawan, 29, from Balingasag, Misamis Oriental, were arrested. The suspects were reportedly en route to Davao City when they were apprehended.

Colonel Rodrigo Mariñas Jr., Commander of Task Force Davao, commended the vigilance of TFD and Davao City Police Office (DCPO) personnel manning the Lacson checkpoint. “This series of drug seizures highlights the effectiveness of our stringent checkpoint operations in preventing the entry of illegal drugs and contraband into the city, ensuring the safety of our residents,” he stated.

Authorities have intensified border control measures to curb illegal activities and maintain security within Davao City. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source and intended destination of the seized drugs. Meanwhile, the suspects are in police custody and face charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (Republic Act No. 9165).

The successful operation underscores the importance of coordinated efforts between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) in safeguarding communities against the proliferation of illegal drugs.
