MATI CITY, DAVAO ORIENTAL — An 18-year-old man was arrested while a 16-year-old minor was taken into protective custody after they were reportedly involved in an incident involving a group described by authorities as “riot boys” in Barangay Don Martin Marundan (DMM), Mati City, in the early hours of August 30, 2026.

Personnel of the City Public Safety and Security Office (CPSSO) – Operations Section immediately responded to the report at around 3:00 a.m., prompting an operation in the area to address the reported disturbance and locate the individuals allegedly involved.

The operation resulted in the arrest of an 18-year-old identified by authorities as alias “Glen.” A 16-year-old minor who was reportedly with him was also located and rescued by the responding personnel.

Authorities also recovered two “Indian pana” weapons allegedly in the possession of the two individuals during the operation. The items were confiscated for proper documentation and processing as part of the authorities’ investigation into the incident.

Following the operation, both individuals were brought to the Mati City Police Station (MCPS) for proper documentation, investigation and appropriate action in accordance with existing laws and procedures.

The circumstances surrounding the reported involvement of the two individuals in the incident remain subject to police investigation. Authorities are expected to determine the nature of the alleged disturbance, the circumstances that led to the recovery of the weapons, and whether additional individuals may have been involved.

Because one of those taken into custody is a minor, authorities are required to observe the appropriate legal procedures and safeguards governing children in conflict with the law. The 16-year-old’s identity is withheld to protect the minor’s privacy.

The operation underscores the continuing response of local authorities to reports of public disturbances and groups allegedly involved in violent or disorderly activities, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours.

The confiscated weapons and other evidence recovered during the operation are expected to form part of the documentation that will guide the authorities in determining the appropriate legal action.

Authorities have not indicated that charges have already been filed against the two individuals, and any criminal liability will depend on the findings of the investigation and the applicable provisions of law.
