LEBAK, Sultan Kudarat — A tragic river incident claimed the life of an eight-year-old boy after he reportedly drowned while swimming with his father in the river in Barangay Datu Karon, Lebak, Sultan Kudarat.
The child was reported missing on the afternoon of August 5, 2026, after he suddenly disappeared while they were bathing in the river. Initial reports from residents said the boy was with his father when he was allegedly swept away by the current and could no longer be seen.
The incident immediately prompted a search operation involving the victim’s family, concerned residents, and rescue personnel from the Municipality of Lebak. Despite hours of continuous searching that extended late into the night, the child remained missing.
By around 9:00 p.m. on August 5, rescuers were still scouring the river as anxious relatives and community members gathered along the riverbanks, hoping the child would be found alive. The difficult search continued throughout the night.
After nearly a day of intensive search efforts, rescuers recovered the boy’s body at approximately 12:40 p.m. on August 6, 2026. He was declared dead at the scene.
Authorities have yet to release additional information regarding the circumstances surrounding the drowning, including the exact cause of the incident and whether the river’s current or other factors contributed to the tragedy.
The heartbreaking incident has left the family and the entire Barangay Datu Karon community in mourning as they grieve the untimely loss of the young boy.
