CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Police have launched an investigation into the death of a security guard who reportedly died by suicide inside the premises of the private company where he was assigned in Barangay Tablon, Cagayan de Oro City, on November 3, 2026.

The incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m., approximately five meters from the company’s guardhouse, according to the initial police report.
Police Major Romel S. Ejem, commander of Police Station 10 in Cugman, said the security guard reportedly used a caliber .38 handgun in the incident. A fellow security guard witnessed what happened and attempted to intervene but was unable to prevent the incident.
The victim was immediately rushed to a hospital for emergency medical attention but was declared dead on arrival.
According to Ejem, the initial police investigation indicated that the incident was a case of suicide, prompting authorities to consider the case closed. However, the firearm involved will still undergo examination as part of the required investigative procedures.
Additional information from the victim’s younger sibling and a friend indicated that they had intended to ask him not to report for work that day because they wanted to help him attend to a personal problem he was facing. However, they reportedly did not get the opportunity to speak with him before he went to work.
The victim’s fellow guard was also reportedly unaware of the situation. After arriving at the workplace, the victim took the firearm and the fatal incident followed.
The circumstances surrounding the victim’s personal difficulties have not been publicly disclosed.
Following the incident, Ejem urged the public not to face serious personal problems alone, emphasizing the importance of seeking assistance and talking to trusted individuals when confronted with overwhelming difficulties.
The incident highlights the importance of recognizing emotional distress and ensuring that people experiencing personal struggles have access to understanding, support, and appropriate assistance.
