TULUNAN, Cotabato — A 60-year-old farmer who had been missing for two days was found dead floating in the Malasila River in Purok 8, Barangay Bagumbayan, Tulunan, on Sunday morning, August 2, prompting an investigation by local authorities.

The victim was identified as Leody “Tiloy” Diego, a senior citizen and resident of Purok 7, Barangay La Esperanza, Tulunan, Cotabato.
According to the victim’s wife, Diego was last seen on Friday after attending a birthday celebration. Before leaving, he reportedly informed those present that he was heading home. However, he never arrived at their residence, prompting concern among family members and leading to efforts to locate him.
Initial information suggests that the victim may have lost his way while walking home, as the route he usually took was reportedly dark and poorly lit. Authorities have yet to determine whether this circumstance contributed to his death.
At around 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, a fisherman noticed a body floating in the waters of the Malasila River. He immediately alerted local authorities, who responded to the scene. The victim’s relatives later arrived and positively identified the body as that of Diego.
Police secured the area and coordinated the recovery of the remains before turning them over to the family for the necessary procedures.
The Tulunan Municipal Police Station has launched a thorough investigation to establish the exact cause of death and determine whether foul play was involved. Investigators are also gathering statements from witnesses and reviewing the victim’s movements before his disappearance.
As of this writing, authorities have not released any findings indicating signs of violence, and the circumstances surrounding Diego’s death remain under investigation pending further examination.
The tragic incident has saddened residents of Barangay La Esperanza and neighboring communities, who had hoped for the safe return of the missing farmer.
