IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay — The Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office (ZSBPPO) has launched an investigation following viral social media posts accusing a police officer of alleged misconduct during an operation against motorcycles with excessively loud mufflers near Budgetwise in Ipil.
The controversy began after a netizen shared an account on July 31 claiming that a police officer conducting an anti-noisy muffler operation allegedly displayed his firearm in public and appeared to count the bullets in front of bystanders. The post further claimed, based on what witnesses allegedly said, that the officer appeared to be intoxicated during the operation.
According to the viral post, while the public understands that authorities have the mandate to apprehend motorcycles equipped with excessively loud exhaust systems in accordance with existing laws and ordinances, the complainant questioned the manner in which the operation was allegedly carried out.
The netizen alleged that the officer shouted at the motorcycle owner and allegedly acted in a way that caused fear among those present. The claims, however, remain unverified and are now the subject of an official police investigation.
The incident quickly gained traction online, drawing mixed reactions from social media users.
Another netizen came to the defense of the motorcycle owner, urging the public not to judge him based solely on the incident. The commenter described the young man as kind and responsible, saying he had recently lost his mother and had been the one providing for her maintenance medications before her passing.
The post identified the individual as a resident of Payao and an employee at Budgetwise, with the commenter appealing to the public to share the story to present what they described as the young man’s true character.
Police Issue Official Statement
On August 1, the Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office released an official statement acknowledging the circulating online video and the allegations involving one of its personnel.
According to ZSBPPO, it has taken note of the social media posts concerning the alleged incident and has initiated an investigation into the claims that the officer was intoxicated, improperly displayed a firearm, and behaved in an unprofessional manner during the operation.
The provincial police office emphasized that it strictly prohibits any form of misconduct by its personnel while performing official duties.
Authorities stated that if the investigation establishes that any officer violated existing rules and procedures, appropriate administrative and legal sanctions will be imposed in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
The police clarified that the allegations are still being verified to determine the complete facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.
To ensure a fair and impartial investigation, ZSBPPO encouraged anyone who directly witnessed the incident or possesses relevant photos, videos, or other evidence to coordinate with the police and assist investigators.

In its statement, the provincial police office stressed that it respects the right of citizens to voice concerns and share observations regarding police conduct.
ZSBPPO acknowledged that public feedback plays an important role in promoting transparency, accountability, and strengthening public trust in law enforcement.
The police also reminded the public that operations against motorcycles equipped with excessively loud mufflers are conducted pursuant to existing traffic laws and local ordinances aimed at ensuring public safety and reducing noise disturbances in communities.
Despite this, the police emphasized that all enforcement activities must be carried out professionally, lawfully, and with respect for the rights and dignity of the public.
As of this writing, no findings have yet been released regarding the allegations, and the investigation remains ongoing.
