ZAMBOANGA CITY – A kulig-lig driver is now in police custody after he allegedly molested a 13-year-old girl whom he had offered to take home in Barangay Talon-Talon, Zamboanga City.

According to the initial police investigation, the suspect offered the minor a ride home. However, instead of taking her to her residence, he allegedly brought the victim to a fishpond, where the alleged sexual abuse took place.

The victim immediately reported the incident to authorities, prompting a swift police operation that led to the suspect’s arrest. Following inquest proceedings, the suspect is now facing the appropriate criminal charges in connection with the alleged molestation of a minor.

Authorities withheld the identities of both the suspect and the victim to protect the privacy of the child and to comply with laws safeguarding minors involved in sexual abuse cases.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing as investigators work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and gather additional evidence that may strengthen the case.

Meanwhile, concerned government agencies have assured the public that the victim is receiving the necessary protection, legal assistance, and psychosocial support throughout the investigation and judicial process.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of child safety and vigilance against sexual abuse. Authorities urged parents and guardians to remind children to exercise caution when accepting rides from individuals they do not know or do not fully trust.

They also encouraged the public to immediately report any suspected cases of child abuse or exploitation to law enforcement authorities, emphasizing that prompt reporting is critical to ensuring the safety of children and holding perpetrators accountable under the law.
