ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Authorities arrested a newly identified high-value individual (HVI) and seized approximately 250 grams of suspected shabu worth an estimated ₱1.7 million during an anti-illegal drugs operation conducted on July 30, 2026, in Barangay Malagutay, Zamboanga City.
The suspect, a native of Jolo, Sulu, who is currently residing in Zamboanga City, was apprehended during the drug bust as part of the intensified campaign against the proliferation of illegal drugs in the region.
Recovered from the suspect’s possession were around 250 grams of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, with an estimated street value of ₱1.7 million.
Authorities said the successful operation dealt a significant blow to the local illegal drug trade by preventing the distribution of a substantial volume of prohibited drugs within the city and nearby communities.
Following the operation, the suspect was taken into custody and is currently detained at the Zamboanga City Police Station 8 detention facility while the necessary documentation and inquest proceedings are being completed.
The arrested individual is expected to face charges for violating Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, which carries severe penalties for the illegal possession, sale, transportation, and distribution of dangerous drugs.
Police have withheld the identity of the suspect pending the filing of formal charges.
Meanwhile, investigators are continuing their probe to determine the origin of the confiscated illegal drugs and establish whether the suspect has links to a larger drug trafficking network operating in Zamboanga City and neighboring areas.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying anti-illegal drug operations and urged the public to remain vigilant by reporting suspicious drug-related activities, emphasizing that community cooperation remains vital in the government’s continuing campaign against illegal narcotics.
