LIBUNGAN, Cotabato Province — A thief made off with approximately ₱300,000 worth of cash and jewelry after stealing a black bag from inside a store while its owner was asleep on Tuesday afternoon, June 30, in Barangay Montay, Libungan, Cotabato Province.
According to the store owner, Arnel Puno Viaje, the incident occurred at around 1:30 p.m. at his shop located in Purok 2, Barangay Montay.
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage captured the entire incident, showing a lone male suspect entering the store while Viaje was asleep. Taking advantage of the situation, the suspect quietly took a black bag containing cash and valuable jewelry before leaving the premises unnoticed.
The stolen bag reportedly contained around ₱300,000 in cash and jewelry, resulting in significant financial losses for the victim.
Authorities have yet to identify the suspect, but the CCTV footage is expected to play a crucial role in the ongoing investigation and in tracking down the individual responsible for the theft.
Viaje has appealed to the public for assistance, urging anyone who may recognize the suspect or have information regarding the incident to immediately report it to him or to the nearest police station.
Police are now conducting follow-up investigations, including reviewing the CCTV footage and gathering additional evidence that could lead to the suspect’s arrest and the possible recovery of the stolen valuables.
Authorities also reminded business owners to remain vigilant and secure their establishments, especially during hours when stores may be unattended or when operators are resting, to prevent similar crimes from occurring.
