GENERAL SANTOS CITY — Two individuals were arrested while two firearms and several rounds of live ammunition were seized by police following a reported illegal discharge of firearms in Barangay Fatima, General Santos City, on June 29, 2026.

The operation was launched after authorities responded to reports of gunshots in the area, leading to the apprehension of the two suspects and the confiscation of firearms allegedly used in the incident.

Recovered from the suspects were a 9mm pistol loaded with one live round, a .38 caliber revolver loaded with three live rounds, and two 9mm magazines containing a total of 10 live rounds of ammunition.

Police said all recovered firearms and ammunition have been turned over for forensic examination to determine whether they had been used in the reported shooting or linked to other criminal activities.

Authorities are now preparing criminal charges against the arrested individuals for Illegal Discharge of Firearms under Article 254 of the Revised Penal Code, as well as Violation of Republic Act No. 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

The identities of the suspects were withheld pending the filing of formal charges.

Police emphasized that indiscriminate firing poses a serious threat to public safety, as stray bullets can cause injuries or fatalities to innocent civilians.

Brigadier General Alan B. Manibog, Assistant Regional Director of Police Regional Office 12, reiterated the organization’s commitment to strictly enforcing gun laws and holding violators accountable.

“There is no place for the irresponsible use of firearms in our communities. We will continue to enforce the law to preserve peace and ensure the safety of every citizen,” Manibog said.

The arrest forms part of the intensified campaign of the Police Regional Office 12 against illegal firearms and gun-related offenses, particularly incidents involving indiscriminate firing that endanger lives and disturb public order.

Authorities urged the public to immediately report incidents involving illegal possession or reckless use of firearms, stressing that community cooperation remains crucial in preventing gun-related violence and maintaining peace and security throughout the region.
