KADINGILAN, Bukidnon — A 44-year-old man was shot dead inside his own home in Sitio Bahucanon, Barangay Cabadiangan, Kadingilan, Bukidnon on Friday evening, June 26, in what authorities believe was a killing fueled by a longstanding family dispute.

The victim, identified only by the alias “Leo,” was declared dead after sustaining a fatal gunshot wound to the back that exited through his abdomen.

Police identified the suspect as alias “Kumander,” who remains at large as authorities continue pursuit operations.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim had just finished fetching water and had returned to his residence. Moments after arriving home, he reportedly called out to his wife when the suspect suddenly opened fire, striking him from behind. The bullet pierced through his body, causing injuries that resulted in his immediate death.

A nearby resident reported hearing gunfire and later told investigators that they saw the suspect fleeing the area shortly after the shooting.

Crime scene investigators recovered two spent .45-caliber shell casings, one deformed bullet slug, and another spent cartridge believed to have been fired from a 7.62×51 mm firearm, suggesting that more than one type of firearm may have been present at the scene. Authorities have yet to determine whether all of the recovered evidence was directly connected to the attack.

Investigators are looking into a personal grudge stemming from a family conflict as the primary motive behind the killing.

Police are now preparing the appropriate criminal charges against the suspect while continuing efforts to locate and arrest him.

The incident adds to the growing number of gun-related killings under investigation in Bukidnon, with authorities urging anyone who may have witnessed the attack or possesses information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts to immediately coordinate with the nearest police station.
