The Coast Guard Station Central Tawi-Tawi (CGSCTT), in coordination with the Coast Guard Sub-Station Bongao, successfully responded to a maritime emergency involving ML Fatima Ameera, which experienced mechanical failure while at sea.

According to the Philippine Coast Guard, the vessel was carrying 28 passengers when its engine malfunctioned, leaving it stranded in the waters near Bongao. Responding units swiftly located the distressed vessel and conducted towing operations, safely escorting ML Fatima Ameera to a secure location. All passengers and crew members were reported safe and unharmed following the incident.

Authorities credited the successful outcome to the prompt response and close coordination between Coast Guard units operating in the province. The operation prevented potential risks associated with prolonged exposure at sea, including adverse weather conditions, strong currents, and navigational hazards.

The Philippine Coast Guard emphasized that the incident highlights the critical role of maritime emergency response teams in safeguarding lives and maintaining safety across the country’s sea lanes, particularly in island provinces such as Tawi-Tawi where sea transport remains a primary mode of travel.

The Coast Guard likewise reiterated its commitment to ensuring maritime safety, security, and environmental protection within Philippine waters. Officials encouraged vessel operators to conduct regular maintenance and safety inspections to minimize the risk of mechanical failures while at sea.

The successful rescue and towing mission underscores the PCG’s readiness to respond to maritime emergencies and its continuing dedication to protecting lives at sea, especially in remote and strategically important waters in the southern Philippines.

No injuries or casualties were reported during the incident, and authorities continue to monitor maritime activities in the area to ensure the safety of seafarers and passengers traveling within the waters of Tawi-Tawi.
