MAWAB, Davao de Oro — The Philippine Army and the Malaysian Army formally launched the 12-day bilateral military exercise “Training Activity (TA) LAND MALPHI 24/2026” on Monday, June 1, at the headquarters of the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division in Camp General Manuel T. Yan Sr., Barangay Tuboran, Mawab, Davao de Oro.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Brigadier General Eufracio Joel Malig, Assistant Division Commander of the 10th Infantry Division, marking the start of another major defense engagement aimed at enhancing military cooperation and operational coordination between the two Southeast Asian nations.

The exercise, which will run from June 1 to June 12, seeks to strengthen defense cooperation, improve interoperability, and enhance battle staff planning capabilities through the sharing of operational experiences and best practices in territorial defense and security operations.

Military officials said the bilateral training will feature a series of cross-training activities, tabletop exercises, and command post exercises designed to sharpen the operational readiness of participating troops while deepening professional military relations between the Philippine and Malaysian armies.

The Malaysian Army delegation also paid a courtesy call on Major General Alvin V. Luzon, Commander of the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division, underscoring the strong military-to-military ties and continuing commitment of both countries to regional defense collaboration.

A symbolic donning of caps and armbands highlighted the opening rites, representing unity, operational preparedness, and the enduring partnership between the participating forces.

In his message, Major General Luzon emphasized the strategic importance of the joint exercise amid evolving regional security challenges in the Asia-Pacific region.

“TA LAND MALPHI demonstrates our shared commitment to strengthening defense cooperation, enhancing interoperability, and building mutual trust among partner armed forces. Through engagements such as this, we develop capable and adaptive forces that contribute to territorial defense, regional security, and lasting stability in our region,” Luzon said.

Military officials described TA LAND MALPHI as a vital platform for fostering mutual understanding, strengthening professional military relationships, and enhancing the collective readiness of both armies to respond to emerging security threats and shared regional concerns.

The exercise also reflects the growing security cooperation between the Philippines and Malaysia, particularly in addressing transnational threats, territorial defense concerns, and maintaining peace and stability in Southeast Asia.

The Philippines and Malaysia have long maintained defense and security cooperation, especially in maritime security, anti-terrorism efforts, and border coordination in the southern Philippines and nearby regional waters.

With the continuing conduct of joint military engagements such as TA LAND MALPHI, both armed forces aim to further develop coordinated defense mechanisms, strengthen operational synergy, and reinforce regional partnerships amid increasingly complex security dynamics in the Indo-Pacific region.
