DATU BLAH SINSUAT, Maguindanao del Norte — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) demonstrated its growing coastal defense capabilities after successfully conducting the Joint Artillery Littoral Live Fire Exercise (JALLFX) from May 27 to 28, 2026, along the shores of Barangay Penansaran in Datu Blah Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte.

The large-scale military drill formed a major component of Maritime Exercise (MAREX) 2026, a two-day exercise aimed at enhancing the country’s external defense posture and strengthening the operational readiness of joint artillery forces in coastal and littoral environments.

The exercise featured synchronized live-fire operations involving key artillery and marine units from both the Philippine Army and the Philippine Marine Corps, underscoring the AFP’s intensified efforts to boost interoperability and unified territorial defense operations amid evolving maritime security challenges.

Participating in the exercise were the Philippine Army’s 6th, 7th, and 10th Field Artillery Battalions, which operated alongside the Philippine Marine Corps’ 15th and 17th Marine Companies. The participating units carried out coordinated firing drills, maneuver operations, and tactical integration exercises designed to simulate real-world coastal defense scenarios.

Military officials said the live-fire exercise tested the units’ capability to rapidly coordinate artillery support and execute precision fire missions in a strategic coastal setting, highlighting the AFP’s readiness to respond to external threats and maritime contingencies.

The joint exercise also showcased the seamless integration of land and naval forces, enabling participating units to strengthen operational coordination and improve combat effectiveness in joint defense missions.

Brigadier General Aldrin Annani, Deputy Commander for External Defense Operations of the Western Mindanao Command, served as the Guest of Honor and Speaker during the event.

In his message, Annani emphasized the importance of joint littoral live-fire exercises in enhancing the country’s coastal defense preparedness and maintaining a unified military response against emerging security threats.

He noted that exercises such as JALLFX are vital in improving the Armed Forces’ ability to protect the nation’s maritime borders while ensuring that military units remain mission-ready in complex operational environments.

“The conduct of joint live-fire exercises strengthens our interoperability and reinforces our commitment to defending the country’s territorial integrity,” Annani said.

The exercise also reflected the AFP’s continuing modernization and transformation efforts, particularly in enhancing joint operational capabilities among major service branches tasked with securing the country’s vast maritime domain.

Military officials added that MAREX 2026 serves as a critical platform for advancing operational coordination, tactical proficiency, and strategic defense planning among participating forces.

The successful execution of the Joint Artillery Littoral Live Fire Exercise highlighted the military’s evolving capability to conduct coordinated coastal defense operations and underscored the AFP’s commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty and regional stability.
