A woman died after accidentally crashing a motorcycle into a school building while practicing how to drive inside a school compound in Barangay Poblacion, Payao, Zamboanga Sibugay on the afternoon of May 25, 2026.

According to a report from the Payao Municipal Police Station, the victim was a married woman and a resident of the municipality.
Initial police investigation revealed that the victim was practicing how to operate a Suzuki FI 125 Skydrive Sport motorcycle together with her son inside the compound of Poblacion Central School at around 5:30 p.m.
Authorities said the victim’s son initially guided her while learning to maneuver the automatic scooter. After several rounds inside the school grounds, the son reportedly stepped off the motorcycle and allowed his mother to continue practicing on her own.
However, while driving alone, the victim allegedly panicked and accidentally twisted the accelerator harder, causing the motorcycle to suddenly speed up. She reportedly lost control of the handlebars and crashed directly into a building area inside the school compound.
Investigators said the impact was strong, causing the victim’s neck to hit part of the structure and resulting in severe injuries.
The woman was immediately rushed to the Payao Health Center for emergency treatment, but she was declared dead on arrival by the attending Municipal Health Officer.
The motorcycle also sustained damage during the incident.
Authorities have already turned over the victim’s remains to her family for proper wake and burial arrangements.
Following the tragedy, police reminded the public to observe proper safety measures and ensure adequate supervision and training when learning how to drive motorcycles in order to prevent similar accidents.
