BISLIG CITY, Surigao del Sur — Authorities arrested a 46-year-old man and confiscated four unlicensed firearms during an early morning operation on March 26, 2026, in Barangay Mone, as part of intensified efforts to curb illegal weapons and prevent violence in the region.

Operatives from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Surigao del Sur Provincial Field Unit, in coordination with the Special Operations Team of CIDG Regional Field Unit 13 and local police units, implemented a search warrant at around 5:39 a.m. for violation of Republic Act No. 10591.
The operation led to the arrest of a suspect identified only as “Allan,” a resident of the area, after authorities found him in possession of multiple firearms without the necessary permits and registration.
Seized from the suspect were a caliber .22 rifle, a caliber 9mm pistol, a “3616” revolver, and a 12-gauge shotgun, along with several magazines and ammunition. Police said the suspect failed to present any documents authorizing him to own or possess the firearms, rendering the weapons illegal under Philippine law.
A report submitted to Robert AA Morico II, Director of the CIDG, confirmed that the firearms were under the suspect’s control at the time of the raid. The successful operation was credited to the coordinated efforts of CIDG units and territorial police forces.
The CIDG leadership commended Butch Ian C Miñoza, Regional Chief of CIDG Regional Field Unit 13, and Rafael Nicanor D Hachuela, head of the provincial field unit, for the successful implementation of the warrant and the simultaneous seizure of multiple illegal firearms.
Authorities emphasized that the confiscation of the weapons is a significant step in preventing potential crimes, noting that loose firearms are often used in violent incidents. The operation highlights the agency’s continued campaign to track down and remove unregistered weapons from circulation.
“The confiscation underscores our commitment to preventing crimes by removing instruments of violence from the hands of unauthorized individuals,” CIDG officials said.
The CIDG assured the public that it remains steadfast in enforcing all firearm-related laws and will continue its aggressive operations against illegal possession of firearms nationwide.
“The CIDG is relentless in its mission. We remain fearless and unwavering in our fight against loose firearms,” the agency added.
The suspect is now under police custody and is facing charges for violation of Republic Act 10591.
