BAYUGAN CITY, Agusan del Sur — A 38-year-old man from Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur was arrested by police early Friday morning, March 13, 2026, after authorities caught him carrying an unlicensed firearm during a police response operation in Bayugan City.

In an initial report from the Bayugan City Police Station, the suspect was identified only by his alias “Jeffer,” a married resident of Purok 1, Barangay San Martin, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.
Police said Jeffer was apprehended at around 6:38 a.m. in Purok 4, Barangay Taglatawan, Bayugan City following a prompt police response operation conducted by personnel of the Bayugan City Police.
According to authorities, the suspect was reportedly on his way back to Prosperidad from Bayugan City when he was intercepted by police operatives. During the operation, officers discovered that Jeffer was carrying a firearm.
Confiscated from the suspect were one caliber .45 pistol, eight live rounds of ammunition, one magazine, and a motorcycle believed to be the vehicle he used while traveling.
Police immediately took the suspect into custody and transported him to the Bayugan City Police Station, where he is currently detained while authorities prepare the appropriate charges against him, particularly for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition under Philippine law.
Authorities have yet to determine whether the firearm recovered from the suspect was licensed and if it had been used in any criminal activity. Further investigation is also underway to determine the origin of the weapon and the circumstances surrounding its possession.
The Bayugan City Police assured the public that they will continue to intensify security operations and police responses to ensure that individuals carrying illegal firearms are apprehended, maintaining peace and order in the city and neighboring communities.
