The state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has forecast partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms across Mindanao from 5:00 a.m. today, February 27, until 5:00 a.m. tomorrow, as the easterlies continue to affect the region.

According to PAGASA’s regional weather outlook issued by the Mindanao Regional Services Division, the prevailing easterlies—warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean—are expected to bring intermittent rains that could intensify into thunderstorms in some areas. Authorities warned that severe thunderstorms may trigger localized flash floods or landslides, particularly in areas prone to flooding and mountainous communities.

Sea and Wind Conditions

Moderate winds blowing from the northeast to north will affect the eastern section of Mindanao, with coastal waters expected to reach moderate seas ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 meters. Meanwhile, the rest of the island will experience light to moderate winds with slight to moderate seas between 0.6 and 1.5 meters, conditions generally manageable but requiring caution for small sea vessels.

Weather Outlook by Region

Across the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City, residents can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms throughout the forecast period. Temperatures are projected to range from 22°C to as high as 33°C, depending on location and time of day.

In Northern Mindanao—covering Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental—similar weather conditions will prevail. Daytime temperatures are expected to range between 20°C and 31°C, with occasional thunderstorms likely to develop in the afternoon or evening.

The Davao Region, including Metro Davao and the provinces of Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental, will also experience intermittent rains and thunderstorms. Temperatures across the region are forecast to range between 21°C and 33°C, with coastal areas experiencing slight to moderate sea conditions.

In parts of SOCCSKSARGEN—particularly North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani—temperatures could climb as high as 34°C, though cloud cover and scattered rainshowers may provide brief cooling periods.

Meanwhile, provinces in the Caraga Region, including Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and the Dinagat Islands, will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with occasional thunderstorms. Surigao del Norte may experience cloudier conditions with more frequent rainshowers, especially during the early part of the forecast period.

Areas under the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM)—including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur—will also experience similar weather patterns, with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 35°C, the latter expected in some lowland areas during warmer periods.

Advisory to the Public

PAGASA advised residents across Mindanao to remain alert, particularly during thunderstorms that could bring sudden heavy rainfall, lightning, and strong winds. Communities in landslide- and flood-prone areas are urged to monitor local advisories and prepare for possible weather-related hazards.

Fisherfolk and small boat operators are likewise encouraged to exercise caution, especially in eastern coastal waters where sea conditions may become moderately rough.

The weather bureau continues to monitor atmospheric conditions and will issue updates as necessary.
