The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has forecast partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms across Mindanao beginning 5:00 AM on February 26 until 5:00 AM the following day, as the easterlies continue to affect the region.

According to PAGASA’s Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD), the prevailing easterlies—warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean—will bring intermittent rainfall that may intensify into severe thunderstorms in some areas. Authorities warned residents to remain alert for possible flash floods and landslides, particularly in low-lying and mountainous communities.

Winds across Mindanao are expected to remain light to moderate, blowing from the northeast to north, while coastal waters will be slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 2.1 meters.

Zamboanga Peninsula

Several areas in the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City, will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with scattered rain showers or thunderstorms throughout the forecast period.

Temperatures in these areas are expected to range between 23°C and 33°C. Winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast to east, while coastal conditions will remain slight to moderate.

Northern Mindanao

In Northern Mindanao, including Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental, similar weather conditions are expected, with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms likely during the day and night.

Temperature ranges in these provinces will vary from as low as 19°C in upland areas like Bukidnon to around 31°C in coastal communities. Sea conditions along coastal areas are forecast to remain slight to moderate.

Davao Region

The Davao Region, including Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, and Davao Oriental, will also see partly cloudy skies with possible rain showers and thunderstorms.

Temperatures in the region are forecast between 23°C and 33°C, with moderate winds from the east to northeast in some coastal provinces such as Davao Oriental, where seas may reach moderate conditions.

SOCCSKSARGEN and Caraga

In SOCCSKSARGEN, including North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rain showers or thunderstorms are expected. Temperatures may range from 22°C to 33°C.

Meanwhile, provinces in the Caraga Region—Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands—are expected to experience moderate winds from the east to northeast, with coastal waters occasionally reaching moderate wave conditions.

BARMM Areas

In the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur, residents should also expect isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.

Temperatures in these areas may range between 20°C and 34°C, with light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters.

Advisory to the Public

PAGASA advised the public, especially those living near rivers, slopes, and flood-prone areas, to remain vigilant as thunderstorms may bring sudden heavy rainfall that could trigger flash floods or landslides. Fisherfolk and small sea vessels were also advised to exercise caution when venturing into the seas due to variable weather conditions.

The weather bureau continues to monitor atmospheric conditions affecting Mindanao and will issue updates should significant changes occur.
