EL SALVADOR CITY, Misamis Oriental — Widespread cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms are expected across Mindanao from early Monday morning until Tuesday morning, according to the regional weather forecast issued at 5:00 a.m. on February 23 by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Weather forecasters said the prevailing easterlies—warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean—will continue to bring moisture over Mindanao, increasing the likelihood of moderate to occasionally heavy rains. Authorities warned that these conditions could trigger flash floods or landslides, particularly in low-lying communities and mountainous areas.

PAGASA’s Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD) said winds across the island will generally be light to moderate, blowing from the east to northeast. Coastal waters are expected to remain slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 2.1 meters, but mariners are still advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms.

Zamboanga Peninsula Under Rainy Conditions

In the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, along with Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City, cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms will prevail throughout the day and night.

Daytime temperatures across the sub-region are expected to range between 22°C and 31°C, slightly dropping during nighttime hours. Coastal areas may experience slight to moderate sea conditions, particularly during periods of heavy rain.

Northern Mindanao Forecast

In Northern Mindanao, provinces such as Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental are expected to experience similar weather patterns.

Temperatures in these areas will range from 20°C to 31°C during the day, with slight cooling overnight. Thunderstorms may develop intermittently, bringing localized heavy downpours.

Persistent Rains in Davao Region

The Davao Region, including Davao City and nearby provinces such as Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental, will also see cloudy conditions accompanied by rainshowers and thunderstorms throughout the forecast period.

Daytime temperatures may climb between 21°C and 33°C, with the warmest conditions expected in coastal and lowland areas of Davao Oriental and surrounding provinces.

SOCCSKSARGEN and Caraga Regions

Weather conditions in SOCCSKSARGEN—including North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani—will remain unstable with frequent rainshowers and thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected to range from about 23°C to 33°C.

In the Caraga Region, provinces such as Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands will also experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms, with temperatures generally ranging from 22°C to 32°C.

BARMM Areas Also Affected

Areas under the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur, are forecast to experience similar weather conditions with rainshowers and thunderstorms continuing through the night.

Among the cooler areas in the region is Lanao del Sur, where temperatures could drop as low as 19°C in elevated communities.

Public Advisory

PAGASA advised residents across Mindanao to remain vigilant, particularly in areas prone to flooding and landslides, as intermittent heavy rains may develop throughout the day. Fisherfolk and small sea vessels were also urged to monitor local weather updates due to thunderstorms that may cause sudden rough conditions at sea.

The weather bureau said it will continue to monitor the situation and encouraged the public to follow official advisories and updates from PAGASA and local disaster risk reduction offices.
