Authorities Remind Public on Road Safety and Responsible Driving

GENERAL SANTOS CITY — What was meant to be a fun night out turned tragic after a motorcycle collision claimed the life of 18-year-old Axeil Villarba and injured three others along Conel Road, Purok Malinawon, Barangay Conel, at around 12:21 a.m. on Tuesday.

Based on the report from the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU)–General Santos, Villarba was riding a Raider motorcycle driven by alias “Jack,” 17, both residents of Barangay Bula. They collided with another motorcycle, a Sniper model, driven by alias “Zach,” 17, with alias “Alex,” 18, as passenger — also residents of the same barangay.

Investigation revealed that the four teenagers decided to head to Barangay Conel to view the city lights as part of the Araw ng Bula celebration. While cruising at high speed, the Sniper motorcycle reportedly overtook the Raider. However, the Raider suddenly swerved to avoid a stray dog, leading to a head-on collision that threw all riders off their motorcycles.

The victims were rushed to the nearest hospital, but Villarba was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians. The three others sustained injuries.

Authorities further disclosed that both drivers were unlicensed, carried no official registration papers (OR/CR), and that none of the riders wore helmets or protective gear during the incident.

The families of the teenagers have reportedly agreed to a private settlement concerning medical and burial expenses.

Road Safety Reminder

Local authorities reiterated their call for stricter compliance with traffic rules and road safety measures, particularly among young riders. Parents are urged to monitor their children’s use of motorcycles and ensure they have the proper training, licensing, and safety equipment before hitting the road.

Traffic enforcers warned that overspeeding, unlicensed driving, and riding without helmets are among the top causes of fatal road crashes in the city.

“No thrill or night ride is worth losing a life,” officials reminded.
