TAGANA-AN, Surigao del Norte — Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) seized two loose firearms and arrested a 52-year-old man during a search operation in Brgy. Lower Libas, Tagana-an, on Sunday morning, September 21.
At around 8:59 a.m., the CIDG Surigao del Norte Provincial Field Unit, in coordination with the Tagana-an Municipal Police Station, implemented a search warrant for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Authorities recovered an Interdynamic KG9 9mm Luger, a caliber .45 pistol, several magazines, and live ammunition from the possession of the suspect, identified as “Marmito,” a resident of Purok 1, Brgy. Lower Libas. He failed to present legal documents for the firearms.
The operation stemmed from community reports alleging that the suspect’s illegal possession of firearms posed a threat to residents.
CIDG Acting Director PMGEN Robert AA Morico II confirmed the arrest and lauded the successful implementation of the intensified Oplan Paglalansag Omega, which targets the proliferation of unlicensed firearms nationwide.
“I commend PCOL Olivia C. Ancheta, Regional Chief of CIDG Regional Field Unit 13 (Caraga), and PLTCOL Darwin B. Dura, Provincial Officer of CIDG Surigao del Norte, for the confiscation of these two unlicensed firearms and the arrest of the possessor. We removed from circulation the instruments of killing, thereby significantly preventing crime,” Morico said.
He further emphasized that the CIDG remains steadfast in enforcing the law. “The CIDG is dauntless. The CIDG means business,” Morico added.
The arrested suspect is now under police custody and faces charges for violation of RA 10591.
