Southwest Monsoon Brings Rains to Northern Mindanao and Zamboanga Peninsula; LPA Monitored East of Luzon
EL SALVADOR CITY, Misamis Oriental — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued its 5:00 a.m. weather bulletin for Mindanao, valid until 5:00 a.m. tomorrow, September 3.
At 3:00 a.m. today, a Low Pressure Area (LPA) was spotted 865 kilometers east of Northern Luzon (17.8°N, 129.9°E). Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon is currently affecting the northern section of Mindanao.
As a result, Zamboanga Peninsula, Caraga, and Northern Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. The rest of Mindanao will also have localized thunderstorms. PAGASA warns of possible flash floods and landslides during severe thunderstorms.
Winds will be light to moderate from the southwest, with coastal waters ranging from slight to moderate (0.6 to 1.8 meters).

Northern Mindanao:
- Bukidnon: Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rain showers or thunderstorms. 23–31°C daytime, 22–30°C nighttime.
- Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte: Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rain showers or thunderstorms. Coastal waters slight to moderate. Daytime highs range from 25–33°C; nighttime lows 23–30°C.
Davao Region:
- Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Davao Occidental: Expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rain showers or thunderstorms. Coastal conditions slight to moderate. Daytime highs 23–32°C; nighttime lows 23–31°C.
SOCCSKSARGEN:
- North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani: Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with localized thunderstorms. Coastal waters slight to moderate. Temperatures range 23–32°C daytime, 22–31°C nighttime.
Caraga Region:
- Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Islands: Cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms due to the Southwest Monsoon. Slight to moderate seas. Daytime highs 25–32°C; nighttime lows 24–30°C.
Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM):
- Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur: Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Winds light to moderate, seas slight to moderate. Temperatures range 22–32°C daytime, 22–31°C nighttime.
Public Advisory
PAGASA advises residents of low-lying and mountainous areas to be alert for possible flash floods and landslides, particularly during severe thunderstorms. Fisherfolk and small seacraft are reminded to take caution when venturing out to sea due to moderate winds and coastal conditions.
