Cotabato City — A powerful explosion from a grenade blast rattled residents of Tamse Road in Barangay Poblacion 4, Cotabato City, past midnight on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
Initial police reports revealed that a still unidentified suspect riding a motorcycle hurled the grenade in front of the residence of Barangay Kagawad Al-Jaynodin Akmad Sumndad before speeding away.
The explosion damaged two vehicles parked near the site of impact — a white Toyota Hilux pick-up (plate number KBY 9205) and a silver-gray Hyundai Accent sedan (plate number NGD 9881). Both sustained multiple shrapnel holes, while the concrete road also bore blast marks.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported. Responding police units, together with the Explosive and Canine Unit, conducted a post-blast investigation and recovered fragments of the grenade from the scene.
Authorities from Police Station 1 and the Cotabato City Police Office are pursuing further investigation to identify the suspect and determine the motive behind the attack.
This incident marked the second grenade attack reported on the same night. Hours earlier, a lotto outlet in Barangay Tumahubong, Sumisip, Basilan, was also targeted by a grenade blast around 8 p.m., though no casualties were reported.
