DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced on Wednesday that construction progress on the Tacunan-Tigatto stretch of the Davao City Bypass Construction Project has reached 60 percent completion.

This segment, identified as Package 1-1 of the larger bypass project, spans Tacunan to Tigatto and includes two tunnels. According to DPWH Project Manager III Engr. Joselito B. Reyes, excavation on the 2.3-kilometer northbound tunnel has been completed, while only 117 meters remain to be excavated on the southbound tunnel.

Aside from the twin tunnels, Package 1-1 also features a four-lane road, bridges, box culverts, intersections, underpasses, and overpasses. Construction on this section began on December 21, 2020, and is expected to be completed by 2026.

The entire Davao City Bypass Construction Project (DCBCP) covers a total length of 45.5 kilometers and is divided into six packages. Once completed, the bypass road will connect Barangay Sirawan in Toril, Davao City to Barangay J.P. Laurel in Panabo City, Davao del Norte.

Reyes noted that the bypass is expected to significantly reduce travel time. “The usual travel time of one hour and 44 minutes will be cut down to just 49 minutes,” he said.

The project aims to ease traffic congestion in the city, enhance transportation and logistics efficiency, and support the region’s economic growth and sustainable urban development.
