May 28, 2025 – Maguindanao del Sur & Maguindanao del Norte
A wave of violence continues to grip the twin provinces of Maguindanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte, with multiple shooting incidents reported today alone—further cementing the region’s status as one of the deadliest places in the country based on the near-daily occurrence of fatal attacks.
In Barangay Zapakan, Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao del Sur, a man identified as Datu Haris Mantis, was shot dead. The incident also claimed the life of a local businessman who was reportedly caught in the crossfire. Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the attack.
Another shooting occurred in Datu Piang, also in Maguindanao del Sur, where the victim was identified as Kagui Thong Asim, a resident of the town. He died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.
Meanwhile, in Sitio KM 11, Barangay Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte, another individual was gunned down. As of this writing, the victim has yet to be identified, and no suspects have been named.
The continuous string of shootings and killings has raised alarm among local residents and human rights advocates, who are calling for urgent action from law enforcement and government officials. Many fear that unless stronger security measures are put in place, the violence will only escalate further.
Authorities have yet to release official statements on the motives or suspects behind the attacks, but investigations are ongoing. Local leaders are also being urged to step up peace-building initiatives amid fears of political, clan-related, or extremist-driven violence.
As the killings mount with disturbing frequency, both Maguindanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte are fast becoming epicenters of unchecked violence in Mindanao, placing ordinary civilians at constant risk.
