Marawi City — In a united effort to promote a peaceful and orderly electoral process, Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal “Bombit” Alonto Adiong Jr. and Vice Governor Mohammad Khalid “Mujam” Raki-in Adiong, along with the entire Siap party, formally pledged their commitment by participating in the Peace Covenant Signing for the upcoming 2025 National and Local Elections.

The covenant signing ceremony was held earlier today at the Dimaporo Gymnasium inside the Mindanao State University (MSU) campus in Marawi City. The event gathered a broad spectrum of stakeholders, all demonstrating their shared goal of ensuring clean, safe, and credible elections.

Present at the event were candidates from various local parties, members of the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP), representatives from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Lanao del Sur, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), officials from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), Mindanao State University, and several civil society organizations (CSOs).

The peace covenant aims to solidify the candidates’ and stakeholders’ commitment to uphold integrity, avoid violence, and encourage a healthy democratic environment throughout the election season leading up to May 2025.

The initiative also serves as a reminder to the public and political contenders alike of the importance of unity and respect in exercising the right to vote. By signing the covenant, leaders and candidates pledged to observe fair play, denounce intimidation and fraud, and promote cooperation among all parties involved.

As the province gears up for the 2025 elections, the peace covenant stands as a hopeful step toward fostering trust and ensuring the voices of the people are heard without fear or conflict.
