Marawi City, Lanao del Sur — A joint COMELEC checkpoint operation led by the Marawi City Police Office and the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) of the Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office resulted in the recovery of a loose firearm on the evening of April 14, 2025, in Barangay Sagonsongan.
According to authorities, the firearm was recovered after law enforcement personnel noticed two unidentified men riding a motorcycle approaching the checkpoint. Upon spotting the police presence, the suspects abruptly stopped, threw an object into a nearby grassy area, and quickly made a U-turn, fleeing toward Piagapo, Lanao del Sur.
Acting swiftly, the checkpoint team scoured the area and discovered a black sling bag. Inside the bag, officers recovered one Colt caliber .45 pistol along with a magazine loaded with four live rounds of ammunition.
The recovered firearm is now under the custody of the Marawi City Police Station for proper documentation and disposition. Police have also launched follow-up investigations, including a review of nearby CCTV footage, to help identify and apprehend the suspects, who may face criminal charges.
Authorities remind the public to stay alert and immediately report any suspicious activities, especially during the election period, as part of their collective efforts to maintain peace and security across the city and province.
