MARAMAG, Bukidnon — A real estate agent was killed after being shot by an unidentified gunman in a brazen daylight attack in Purok 7, South Poblacion, Maramag, Bukidnon on Friday afternoon, June 5, 2026.

The victim was identified as Rencie Vasquez Capua, a resident of Barangay San Carlos, Bagontaas, Valencia City.

According to the initial investigation conducted by the Maramag Municipal Police Station, Capua was about to board his vehicle together with a 36-year-old female colleague, who is also a real estate agent, when the attack occurred.

Authorities said an armed man suddenly approached the victim and fired a shot at close range. The bullet struck Capua in his left ear, causing critical injuries.

Witnesses reported that immediately after the shooting, the gunman fled the scene and boarded a waiting motorcycle driven by an accomplice. The suspects then sped away toward the northern direction, successfully evading arrest.

The female companion of the victim was unharmed during the incident.

Personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Maramag responded swiftly and rushed Capua to the Bukidnon Provincial Hospital. However, despite efforts to save his life, attending physicians declared him dead on arrival.

The killing has alarmed residents and raised concerns over the apparent ease with which the assailants carried out the attack in a populated area before escaping.

Police investigators are now pursuing several angles, including possible personal, business, or professional motives behind the shooting. Authorities have yet to identify the perpetrators and have not disclosed whether the victim had previously received threats.

In response to the incident, law enforcement officers launched a hot-pursuit operation and are currently conducting backtracking efforts, including the review of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from establishments and residences near the crime scene.

Investigators are also gathering witness statements and forensic evidence that could help establish the identities of the gunman and his accomplice.

As of this writing, the suspects remain at large, while police continue their manhunt and urge anyone with information that may aid the investigation to coordinate with authorities.

The fatal shooting adds to the growing list of gun-related incidents being investigated in the province, prompting renewed calls for stronger law enforcement measures and community vigilance against criminal activities.
