QUEZON, Bukidnon — A man was injured after being allegedly hacked by his drinking companion following a heated argument during a drinking session in Barangay Minongan, Quezon, Bukidnon, on Friday evening, June 5.

Authorities said the victim narrowly escaped death after he was immediately rushed to a hospital where he received urgent medical treatment for a hack wound sustained during the attack.
The incident came to the attention of the Quezon Municipal Police Station after the victim’s live-in partner personally reported the matter to authorities, informing them that her partner had been attacked and wounded by a suspect who had been drinking with him earlier that day.
Police investigators subsequently proceeded to the hospital to verify the report and interview the victim. Their investigation confirmed that the victim sustained a hack wound on his left waist area.
Initial findings revealed that at around 4:00 p.m. on the same day, the victim went to the residence of the suspect in Purok 7, Barangay Minongan, to join a drinking session. However, what began as a social gathering reportedly turned violent after the two became embroiled in an argument concerning payment related to a parcel of land that had allegedly been pawned by the suspect.
Investigators said tensions escalated during the discussion, leading to a confrontation between the two men. When the victim decided to leave and head home, the suspect allegedly followed him and suddenly attacked him with a bladed weapon, inflicting a serious injury.
The victim was immediately brought to a medical facility for treatment, a move that authorities said likely prevented the injury from becoming fatal.
As of the latest report, the victim remains confined at the hospital but is already in stable condition and under continuous observation by the attending physician.
Police are continuing their investigation into the incident and are expected to pursue appropriate charges against the suspect. Authorities also renewed their call for the peaceful resolution of disputes, warning that arguments fueled by alcohol can quickly escalate into acts of violence with potentially deadly consequences.
