SAN FERNANDO, Bukidnon — Authorities uprooted and destroyed approximately 800 marijuana plants with an estimated value of ₱250,000 during a joint anti-illegal drug operation in the remote upland area of Sitio Salumayag, Barangay Halapitan, San Fernando, Bukidnon on June 8, 2026.

Despite the difficult and rugged terrain leading to the plantation site, law enforcement personnel successfully reached the area at around 10:00 a.m. as part of an intensified campaign against the cultivation of illegal drugs.
The operation was conducted by the San Fernando Municipal Police Station in coordination with the 2nd Bukidnon Provincial Mobile Force Company, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 10, 1003rd Maneuver Company, and the 89th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered around 800 marijuana plants growing in a secluded portion of the sitio. The illegal crops were reportedly planted alongside sweet potatoes and tobacco, apparently to conceal the plantation from authorities.
The marijuana plants were immediately uprooted and burned on-site to prevent their recovery and distribution. Authorities estimated the total value of the destroyed plants at approximately ₱250,000.
Residents of Sitio Salumayag said the resurgence of marijuana cultivation has become a growing concern in their community, noting that the illegal activity has once again emerged as a significant problem in the area.
Police said the successful operation highlights the government’s continuing efforts to eliminate illegal drug sources in remote communities and curb the proliferation of prohibited substances.
PMaj. Bangsoy also appealed to the public to cooperate with authorities by reporting any information regarding illegal marijuana plantations and other unlawful activities that may threaten peace and order in San Fernando.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify those responsible for cultivating the marijuana plants and to prevent the re-establishment of similar plantations in the area.
