SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte — In a move aimed at strengthening law enforcement capabilities and enhancing public safety across the province, the Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office (SDNPPO) distributed 54 units of Galil basic assault rifles to municipal police stations on Wednesday, providing frontline personnel with additional resources to respond to security challenges and operational demands.

The turnover ceremony, held at the SDNPPO Conference Room in Surigao City, was led by Provincial Director Police Colonel Warren E. Dablo, together with members of the provincial staff and Provincial Supply Officer Police Captain Niño A. Merza.

The newly issued firearms, sourced from the Philippine National Police National Headquarters, were formally handed over to various municipal police stations throughout Surigao del Norte as part of the organization’s continuing effort to modernize police equipment and improve operational readiness.

According to SDNPPO, the distribution comes amid increasing operational requirements faced by police units tasked with maintaining peace and order, preventing crime, and ensuring the safety of communities across the province.

Strengthening Police Capabilities

The Galil assault rifles are expected to significantly enhance the operational effectiveness of police personnel, particularly those deployed in areas that require heightened security measures and rapid response capabilities.

Law enforcement officials emphasized that modern and reliable equipment remains a critical component in carrying out police duties effectively, especially as officers confront evolving security concerns and increasingly complex law enforcement challenges.

The turnover reflects the Philippine National Police’s broader commitment to equipping field units with the necessary resources to fulfill their mandates while ensuring the protection of both police personnel and the communities they serve.

Provincial Director Dablo underscored the importance of responsible stewardship of government-issued equipment, expressing confidence that the firearms would be used appropriately and professionally.

“I am confident that the police units will utilize these assets properly, further strengthening their capacity to ensure the safety and security of the people of Surigao del Norte,” Dablo said during the ceremony.

Supporting Public Safety Efforts

The acquisition and distribution of the rifles form part of ongoing initiatives to enhance the operational preparedness of local police stations. Authorities noted that well-equipped police officers are better positioned to respond to emergencies, conduct law enforcement operations, and support crime prevention efforts throughout their areas of responsibility.

For municipal police stations spread across Surigao del Norte’s mainland and island communities, access to upgraded equipment is seen as an important factor in maintaining effective police presence and ensuring swift responses to security incidents.

The turnover also highlights the continuing support provided by the PNP National Headquarters to provincial and municipal police units, particularly in strengthening frontline operations and improving service delivery to the public.

Commitment to Community Security

As law enforcement agencies continue to modernize their resources and capabilities, police officials reiterated that the ultimate goal remains the protection of lives and the preservation of peace and order in local communities.

The newly distributed rifles are expected to bolster the confidence and readiness of police personnel as they carry out their duties, ranging from routine patrol operations to high-risk law enforcement activities.

With the additional equipment now in the hands of local police units, authorities expressed optimism that the enhanced firepower and operational capability will contribute to a safer environment for residents and further support the province’s efforts to maintain peace, security, and public trust.

The turnover of the 54 Galil assault rifles marks another step in the continuing modernization and capability enhancement program of the Philippine National Police, reinforcing its mission of providing effective, efficient, and responsive policing services to the people of Surigao del Norte.
