Two members of the notorious Labain Criminal Group (LCG), including its alleged leader, voluntarily surrendered to government troops in a significant breakthrough in the government’s continuing peace and security campaign in Western Mindanao.

The surrender took place on May 13, 2026, in Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay Province, through the efforts of troops from the 106th Infantry Battalion led by Lt. Col. Ezrael Oloan.

Authorities identified the group leader as Yasher Indal Hassan, also known by his aliases “Almain” and “Apidol Labain.” His surrender, alongside another member of the criminal group, was seen by military officials as a major development in the ongoing drive to weaken armed criminal networks operating in the province and nearby areas.

As part of their surrender, the former rebels also turned over one M16A1 rifle and one 9mm KG9 firearm to government forces.

Military officials said the surrender reflects the growing success of intensified security operations and localized peace initiatives aimed at encouraging members of armed groups to abandon violence and reintegrate into society.

The 106th Infantry Battalion has been actively conducting focused military operations, community engagement, and coordination with local government units to address criminality and insurgency threats in the region. Officials noted that the voluntary surrender of the LCG members demonstrates increasing public confidence in the government’s peace and reconciliation programs.

Authorities have yet to disclose whether the surrendering individuals will be enrolled in government reintegration and assistance programs, but military officials reiterated their commitment to helping former members of armed groups rebuild their lives peacefully.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines continues to urge remaining members of criminal and armed groups in Mindanao to surrender peacefully, assuring them of fair treatment and opportunities for rehabilitation under existing government programs.
