A minor was rushed to the hospital after nearly drowning at Bulangsih Beach in Barangay Bulangsih, Panamao, Sulu on May 17, following the swift response of government troops from the Philippine Army’s 21st Infantry Battalion.

The victim was identified as Naica Hamadol, a resident of Barangay Tubig Putih in Luuk, Sulu.

According to reports, soldiers immediately responded after receiving information about the drowning incident. The rescue operation was led by PFC Edmar I. Andao (MS) PA together with Pvt. John Real O. Tusing (Inf) PA, who quickly proceeded to the area to provide emergency assistance.

Upon arriving at the scene, the responding troops immediately administered first aid and performed Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in an effort to stabilize the victim’s condition and save her life.

After the emergency response, the victim was swiftly evacuated to Luuk District Hospital for further medical treatment and proper care.

The soldiers also coordinated with local residents and concerned authorities to ensure the safety of other civilians in the area and help prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

Residents commended the immediate action of the responding troops, whose quick intervention proved crucial during the emergency situation.

The incident highlighted the continuing role of soldiers not only in maintaining peace and security in conflict-affected communities, but also in responding to humanitarian and life-threatening emergencies.

Military officials said the fast response and compassion shown by the troops reflect the armed forces’ commitment to protecting the welfare and safety of civilians, especially during times of urgent need.
