Authorities confiscated an estimated ₱12 million worth of smuggled cigarettes during an early morning operation on May 1, 2026, in Governor Generoso.

The operation, carried out at around 1:40 a.m., led to the arrest of a 47-year-old male suspect. Law enforcement officers recovered multiple brands of illegal cigarettes believed to have been transported and intended for distribution without proper permits and tax documentation.
Initial investigation indicates that the seized products were part of an illicit supply chain aimed at evading government taxation and regulatory controls. Smuggling of tobacco products remains a persistent concern for authorities, as it undermines lawful businesses and results in significant revenue losses for the government.
The suspect is currently under police custody as authorities prepare to file appropriate charges. Officials have not disclosed further operational details but emphasized their continued commitment to intensifying efforts against smuggling activities in the region.
Law enforcement agencies reiterated their warning against engaging in illegal trade, stressing that operations will persist to curb the circulation of untaxed and unregulated goods across Davao Oriental.
