TUBOD, Lanao del Norte — A heartbreaking scene has shaken a quiet community in Poblacion, where a young child lies lifeless inside a modest home—without even the dignity of a coffin—after a tragic accident compounded by extreme poverty.

The child, the youngest among eight siblings, died days after reportedly falling from a staircase last week. According to neighbors, the child was initially brought to a local healer for treatment. However, the condition worsened, with recurring fever, until the child eventually succumbed.
In a cruel twist of fate, the grieving parents now face another painful reality: they cannot afford to bury their child properly.
With no money to purchase a coffin, the family has been forced to keep the child’s remains inside their cramped home, lacking even the most basic funeral provisions. The already dire situation is made worse by the limited space in their house, making it difficult to hold a proper wake.
“This is one of the most painful things I have ever witnessed,” said neighbor Krishiamae Nacario Perez, who has been helping the family appeal for assistance. “They have no one else to turn to. Even we, their neighbors, are struggling.”
Nacarioperez shared that while some residents have tried to extend small amounts of help, their capacity is also limited. Many in the community are still recovering from their own financial burdens, including medical expenses.
“We want to help more, but we also have our own struggles. I was just recently discharged from the hospital myself,” she added.
The family’s situation has drawn sympathy from nearby residents, but the overwhelming poverty in the area has made it difficult to gather enough support. As the child remains laid out without a coffin, the urgency grows for immediate assistance.
Now, the bereaved family, through their neighbors, is making a heartfelt appeal to the public and local authorities: help them give their child a dignified burial.
Their plea is simple yet heavy with grief—to provide a coffin and basic funeral support so the child can finally be laid to rest with respect.
In a community already burdened by hardship, this tragedy underscores a painful truth: for some families, even in death, dignity remains a privilege they cannot afford.
Those willing to extend help are urged to reach out to local officials or community leaders in Tubod, Lanao del Norte.
