DAVAO CITY — A 34-year-old farmer listed among the region’s most wanted suspects was wounded and arrested after allegedly shooting a police officer during the service of a warrant of arrest on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2026, in Purok 3, Barangay Sibulan, Toril District, Davao City.

Police identified the suspect as Kerin Edo Camansa, who was targeted in an arrest operation at around 3:40 p.m. by Police Corporal Jonathan Mangano and Police Corporal Elton John Mamac.

According to investigators, the two officers were approaching the suspect’s residence to serve the warrant when Camansa allegedly opened fire without warning. PCpl Mamac was hit in the rib area, prompting his companion, PCpl Mangano, to return fire in self-defense.

The suspect was reportedly wounded during the exchange but managed to flee the scene.

Responding members of the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (BDRRMC) in Sibulan immediately rushed the injured officer to the Southern Philippines Medical Center for medical treatment.

Authorities later confirmed that Camansa, who was ranked among the Top 9 most wanted persons at the regional level, was tracked down and arrested by members of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) in Barangay Sibulan, Santa Cruz, Davao del Sur. A pistol was recovered from his possession during the arrest.

The wounded suspect was subsequently taken to the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital in Digos City for treatment under tight police guard.

Police said further investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the shooting. Additional charges, including attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms, may be filed against the suspect.

Authorities also assured the public that measures are being strengthened to protect law enforcers and ensure the safe and lawful implementation of court-issued warrants.
