Bayang, Lanao del Sur — January 28, 2026

Several long-standing family feuds, locally known as rido, were peacefully resolved during a reconciliation activity held Wednesday at the Municipal Gymnasium of Pagayawan, Lanao del Sur, marking a significant step toward restoring harmony and stability in the area.

Lieutenant Colonel Jerry B. Gaviola INF (GSC) PA, Commanding Officer of the 64th Infantry “Knights” Battalion, attended and witnessed the historic settlement involving three separate conflicts between families from different municipalities in Lanao del Sur.

Among the disputes settled was the rido between the Mala family of Tugaya and the Pangcatan family of Ganassi. Also resolved was the long-running conflict between the Dibagulun family of Barangay Pinalangca, Pagayawan, and the Marohomsalic family of Barangay Bandaraingud, Pagayawan. An additional case involved an amicable settlement between members of the Mala family and police personnel, represented by PLT Agacan Manginngin, following mediation over a previous law enforcement incident.

The successful reconciliation was carried out under the “Kaisaisa Ko Kalilintad Program,” a peace and conflict resolution initiative spearheaded by Pagayawan Mayor Hon. Khalid P. Diamael and Vice Mayor Hon. Khalida Polao-Sanguila. The program aims to address and peacefully resolve rido and other community conflicts through dialogue, mediation, and cooperation among families, local leaders, and authorities.

During the ceremony, all parties formally agreed to end hostilities, signing a written peace agreement and taking an oath on the Holy Qur’an—an act symbolizing their solemn commitment to permanently cease conflict and restore peace among their families.

Lt. Col. Gaviola commended the Pagayawan Local Government Unit for its proactive role in fostering reconciliation and unity. He stressed that family feuds have no place in a peaceful society and underscored the importance of unity in sustaining peace and order in Lanao del Sur. He further assured the public that the 64th Infantry Battalion remains steadfast in supporting peace initiatives and reiterated the call to finally put an end to rido in the province.

Also present during the reconciliation activity were Pualas Mayor Hon. Al Ihsan Marohom Ibrahim and Vice Mayor Hon. Dialalodin Marohom; former Tugaya Mayor Hon. Abdul Jabar Pacalna; former Ganassi Mayor Hon. Hosni Macapodi; members of the Pagayawan Municipal Council led by Hon. Aminoden S. Marante, Sangguniang Bayan Secretary; PCPT Amel Delos Santos, Chief of Police of the Ganassi Municipal Police Station; PCPT Gerson V. Ancas, Chief of Police of the Pagayawan Municipal Police Station; and members of the Ulama Council led by Abdulghanni S. Abbas, Chairman of the Arbitration Committee.

The participation of the 64th Infantry Battalion underscored the Philippine Army’s continued support for local government units, traditional leaders, and religious authorities in promoting peaceful conflict resolution and sustaining long-term peace and stability in the Bangsamoro region.
