DAVAO CITY — Police arrested a 50-year-old man for illegally lighting fireworks during New Year celebrations in Rovical Village, Barangay Daliao, Toril at around 1:00 AM on January 1, 2026.
The suspect, identified only as “Ramon,” was caught on video igniting a “fountain” firework locally known as “Tulips,” in direct violation of Davao City’s long-standing Firecracker Ban Ordinance.
Responding officers seized additional prohibited pyrotechnics from the suspect, including one kwitis and three “baby rockets,” which were found in his possession at the time of the arrest.
Police said the man will face charges for violating City Ordinance No. 060-02, also known as the Firecracker Ban Ordinance of Davao City — a strict policy credited for significantly reducing firecracker-related injuries in the city over the years.
Authorities once again reminded residents to comply with the city’s fireworks prohibition, emphasizing that alternative, safe, and community-led activities remain the only permitted means of welcoming the New Year within Davao City.
