BANSALAN, DAVAO DEL SUR — A 50-year-old laborer was found dead after reportedly being electrocuted along a narrow foot trail in Purok 6, Lower Mantalaki, Barangay Darapuay, Wednesday morning, December 31, 2025.
Police identified the victim as Danilo Mesa Santaromana, a resident of the area. His lifeless body was discovered around 9:30 AM by a neighbor, alias “Benita,” who immediately alerted their barangay officials and authorities.
Responding personnel from the Bansalan Municipal Police Station said initial findings point to accidental electrocution. Santaromana allegedly came into contact with a live flying electrical wire hanging along the pedestrian pathway. Investigators noted visible burn marks on his palm, consistent with an electric shock.
Neighbors told police that Santaromana was known for frequently drinking alcohol, often late into the night, and would wander around looking for more liquor when his supply ran short.
Police found no indication of foul play in the incident. The victim’s remains were brought to Brillantes Funeral Homes for a post-mortem examination.
Authorities remind the public to exercise caution, especially in areas with unsafe or exposed electrical lines, to prevent similar tragedies.
The case remains under further investigation.
