DAVAO CITY — A 35-year-old man was shot dead by unidentified gunmen while riding his motorcycle at Purok 8, Manggahan Street, Muslim Village, Bacaca, Barangay 19-B, in the early hours of Saturday, December 6.
The victim was identified as Zairon Guinaid Balik, a resident of Purok 4, Isla Verde, Barangay 23-C. According to the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), the shooting occurred at around 1:31 a.m. while Balik was driving through a dimly lit portion of the area.
Initial police investigations revealed that the gunman fired twice, hitting Balik in the head. Responders from Central 911 immediately rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.
A Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) team recovered two spent shells believed to be from a .45-caliber pistol, along with several personal items suspected to belong to the assailants. Witnesses were unable to provide a clear description of the suspects due to the darkness at the time of the attack.
Police said at least two unidentified suspects fled in an unknown direction after the shooting.
Authorities are now conducting a deeper investigation to identify the culprits and determine the possible motive behind the attack.
The DCPO urges anyone with information about the incident to coordinate with the nearest police station.
