DAVAO CITY – Two women, identified as sisters, were wounded after they were shot by unidentified assailants in Barangay Ubalde, R. Castillo, Agdao District, Davao City, on Sunday evening, July 5, 2026, prompting an intensified police investigation and a search for the perpetrators.
Based on initial reports, one of the victims, identified only by the alias “Nita,” sustained two gunshot wounds to the chest after she was allegedly attacked by the suspects. Witnesses said she was selling durian in the area when the shooting occurred.
Her sister, identified only as alias “Gina,” was also struck by a bullet in the buttocks. Despite her injury, she reportedly managed to flee the scene and seek immediate assistance from nearby residents.
Both victims were rushed to a hospital for emergency medical treatment. Authorities have yet to release an official update regarding their medical condition.
Personnel from the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (BDRRMC) of Ubalde were among the first responders who immediately assisted one of the victims at the crime scene before she was transported to the hospital.
The gunfire caused panic among residents in the neighborhood.
One witness recounted the terrifying moments leading up to the incident, saying she was doing laundry when she suddenly heard gunshots. Initially unsure of what had happened, she stepped outside and discovered that a woman had been shot.
The witness also described the heartbreaking scene of one victim’s child crying uncontrollably after seeing his mother lying wounded, calling the incident deeply traumatic, especially for the young child who witnessed the violence firsthand.
Police investigators have already secured the area and are conducting follow-up operations to identify and locate the suspects responsible for the attack. Investigators are also gathering witness statements and reviewing available evidence that may help establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Authorities said the motive behind the shooting has yet to be established and remains under investigation as police continue their efforts to determine the circumstances of the attack and identify those responsible.
