CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Authorities have launched a thorough investigation into a policeman who allegedly fired his service firearm during a heated altercation with a neighbor in Sitio Bulao, Barangay Iponan, early morning of December 25, 2025.

According to initial reports, the confrontation stemmed from a dispute between neighbors that escalated into chaos, eventually leading the police officer to discharge his gun. Fortunately, no one was hurt during the incident.

In a strongly worded statement, Police Regional Office 10 (PRO10) condemned the illegal discharge of a firearm, particularly when committed by law enforcement personnel who are expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct.

“Any act that endangers the public—especially when committed by a member of the Philippine National Police—is unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” PRO10 stated. “Such behavior violates the law and goes against the values of discipline and professionalism expected of every police officer.”

The Regional Office confirmed that the involved patrolman has already been arrested and is facing both criminal and administrative charges. Authorities emphasized that no one is above the law and assured the public that accountability will be pursued to the fullest extent.

“We assure the community that PRO10 remains committed to protecting the public and upholding trust,” the statement added.

COCPO continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident as the case moves forward.
